How does PET Foam’s environmental profile compare to XPS and EPS?

PET Foam is a leader in sustainability among rigid foams. It is typically manufactured with 60-95% post-consumer recycled content, directly diverting plastic waste. Unlike XPS, it uses pentane or CO2 as blowing agents, which have negligible Global Warming Potential (GWP). It is also fully thermoplastic and recyclable at end-of-life in appropriate streams, supporting a circular economy. In contrast, XPS has historically used high-GWP HFCs (though improving), and EPS has lower recycled content potential. PET foam’s production has a lower overall environmental impact.
