How to control the uniformity of core density distribution during PU sandwich panel production?

PU foaming is an exothermic and flow-driven process, prone to localized high density (“dead foam”) in high cavity-pressure areas due to restricted flow, or under-filling in low-pressure areas. Control strategies: 1) Optimize the number and layout of dispensing ports to achieve “waterfall” flow of the mixture in the cavity; 2) Implement dynamic cavity pressure monitoring (multi-point sensors) to ensure pressure gradient ≤0.05 bar/m; 3) Control facing preheat temperature uniformity within 5°C; 4) Use high-functionality polyether polyols to improve initial fluidity. Density deviation should be controlled within ±4% (e.g., 36±1.5 kg/m³). For continuous production lines, cross-sectional weighting of panels along the length should be performed regularly.
