While PU itself is an excellent insulator, thermal bridging occurs at joints, fasteners, and structural elements. Best practices to minimize bridging include:
- Using tongue-and-groove or stepped edge profiles
- Installing multiple layers with offset joints
- Using thermal break pads under fasteners
- Applying continuous insulation layers
- Sealing all joints properly
The high R-value of PU means that even with some bridging, overall thermal performance remains superior to most alternatives.
